Why Is a Car Wash Hydrominder Right for Your Car Wash?

Shiny Red Car Being Wiped With Microfiber TowelAll types of car washes can benefit from a hydrominder. While some of you may already be familiar with what a hydrominder is, not everyone that works at your car wash might know. Plus, if you are getting ready to start a car wash business, you might not be entirely sure what a hydrominder is, so we are going to do a quick review.

What Is a Hydrominder?

A hydrominder is a piece of equipment that helps keep reservoirs full of pre-mixed and ready-to-use solutions, such as car wash soap and car wash wax. When the pre-mixed solution level in the reservoir drops below a preset amount, a weight attached by a chain to an electric magnetic valve in the hydrominder drops.

This raises up the valve. The valve is attached to a pin in the water supply line. The pin is pulled upward, as well, to turn on the water. As the water flows through the system, suction is created that draws liquid chemicals from their storage containers into the RTU (Ready to Use) hydrominder reservoir.

The system continues to run until the volume of liquid in the reservoir is sufficient to cause the weight to float to release the pressure on the chain. Typically, this is the preset reservoir fill level you desire. Whenever the pre-mixed solution level gets low enough, the process repeats itself to refill the reservoir.

Benefits of a Hydrominder

  • Automatically maintains the level of ready-to-use solutions.
  • Easy to integrate into your car wash equipment plumbing lines.
  • Siphons liquids accurately and precisely to avoid waste.
  • Reduces your car wash operating costs since chemicals are precisely mixed.
  • Eliminates having to mix solutions by hand and paying someone to keep reservoirs full.
  • Prevents accidental reservoir overflows.
  • Easy to adjust flow rates for accurately mixed solutions.

Why It’s Important to Pick the Right Hydrominder

HydrometerHydrominders come in different configurations, which affect the mix rations of water to liquid chemicals. You need to know the mix ratios you need for the various chemicals used at your car wash.

You also need to know how many gallons of water per minute you need to mix with the chemicals. If you choose the wrong hydrominder, then your solutions will not be mixed to the right ratios.
Other things to consider when selecting hydrominders for your car wash include:
  • Fluid Flow Rates
  • Where to Install
  • What Mounting Brackets Are Needed
  • What Dilution Range You Require
  • What Types of Siphon Breakers Are Needed
  • The Size of Metering Tips Needed
  • The Number of Chemicals You Need to Mix
For example, a Hydro System Model 511 hydrominder with a low volume siphon breaker can accommodate 4.5 gallons per minute (GPM) @ 40 PSI and mix ratios between 0.41% to 20%.
The mix ratio ranges are controlled by the size of the metering tip attached to the supply line that is placed inside your chemical concentrate containers.

Hydrominders are a great investment for any type of car wash business to help premix solutions at the correct ratios and avoid waste.
