How Are Microfiber Towels Cleaned?

Vending Machine Car Wash Towels and SpongesNothing is quite like a microfiber towel for washing cars. They are excellent for both dusting and scrubbing, thanks to their static-charged woven fibers. Even better, they can absorb seven times their weight in moisture.

While all this means that car wash customers will jump to purchase a microfiber car wash towel rather than your standard rag, rags do have one advantage—you can toss them out once they're dirty. You don't want to do that to a microfiber cloth. You want to clean it and make sure you don't ruin the microfiber cloth while doing so.

The best thing about cleaning a microfiber towel, even one for cars, is how easy it is to do, provided you follow a few simple tips.

Preparing to Wash a Microfiber Car Wash Towel

First, rinse out your microfiber towels before washing them. Since microfiber car wash towels can really pick up dirt and dust more effectively than other types of cloth, it means a standard washing will have to get rid of more dirt and dust than normal. A rinse beforehand will help get rid of the extra dirt and make your washing machine's life a lot easier.

Using the Washing Machine

Now you're ready for the actual wash. Make sure you wash your microfiber car wash towels by themselves. If you don't, the cloths will pick up the lint and dirt on the other clothes. The result will be a microfiber cloth with bits of lint stuck all over it.

If you want to be ecologically efficient and wash your microfiber cloths with other clothes, put them in a mesh delicates bag. That limits their exposure to other clothes in the wash load, so there should be less lint on them.

Make sure to wash your towels with cold water only. If the microfiber cloths get too hot, the fibers can start to melt.

As far as detergent goes, the biggest thing to remember is what NOT to add:
  • No bleach
  • No fabric softener
  • No powder detergent
You may also want to stay away from detergents with a strong scent since scented detergent often contains fabric softener. Your best bet is to purchase a laundry detergent specially formulated for microfiber cloths, however, an unscented, dye-free detergent will also get the job done.

How to Dry

The best way to dry your microfiber car wash towels is to hang them on a line and let them air-dry. If you want to put them in the dryer, tumble dry them on low or no heat.

Whatever you do, do NOT use a dryer sheet, a dryer ball, or anything designed to eliminate static cling. Remember, static cling is one reason a microfiber cloth cleans as well as it does, so you want all the static you can get.
